Protected Species Survey
Bat
At Wildfox Ecological Consulting, we offer Bat Protected Species Surveys to assess the presence of bat species and their habitats on your site. Bats are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017, making it illegal to disturb or harm them. If your development may affect bat roosts, foraging areas, or flight paths, conducting a Bat Survey is a critical step to ensure legal compliance and to inform mitigation measures.
Our team of qualified ecologists uses a variety of survey techniques to detect bat activity, including dawn and dusk emergence surveys, roost assessments, and static bat monitoring. These surveys are carried out during the optimal survey periods (spring to autumn) to ensure the accuracy of results, and we assess both potential roost sites and the surrounding habitats.
What Services Can We Provide?
Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment – We start with a desktop study to identify known bat records and suitable roosting sites. We also conduct a visual inspection of buildings, trees, and other potential roost structures.
Bat Activity Surveys – Our ecologists can carry out dawn and dusk surveys to observe bat emergence and foraging activity. We also use static detectors to record bat activity over time.
Protected Species Report – A detailed report outlining our findings, including species identification, roost locations, and activity levels. The report will also include recommendations for mitigation measures or further surveys.
